CLEANSING

Cleansing is the first and most critical step in any effective skincare routine. Beyond removing surface impurities, proper cleansing preserves the skin’s natural barrier, supports a balanced microbiome, and prepares the skin to respond optimally to subsequent treatments.

Throughout the day and night, the skin accumulates a complex mixture of substances, including sebum, sweat, environmental pollutants, sunscreen, and microorganisms. If not removed effectively, these residues can interfere with skin renewal processes and reduce the performance of skincare applied afterward. At the same time, overly aggressive cleansing can disrupt the skin’s natural protective systems.

From a biological perspective, healthy skin depends on an intact skin barrier, a slightly acidic surface pH (4.5–5.5) and balanced microbiome.

Improper cleansing, whether excessive, harsh, or insufficient, can increase transepidermal water loss, trigger inflammation, and impair long-term skin resilience.

HOW TO CLEANSE

Cleansing is as much about method as it is about product choice.

Cleanse in the evening to remove daily buildup. Morning cleansing may be adjusted base on skin type and comfort.

Use lukewarm water. Hot water can weaken barrier lipids and increase dryness.

Apply cleanser to damp skin. Massage gently for 30–60 seconds, allowing surfactants to bind impurities effectively. Rinse thoroughly without friction.

After cleaning, pat skin dry with a soft towel. Proceed promptly to tonning or preparation steps to prevent moisture loss.
